In 2011, we became aware of a tremendous spiritual need at the University of Málaga (UMA) in Spain. UMA is located in a city where many cultures from all over the world meet. Thirty seven thousand students, Spaniards and others from all over the world, attend this university that is only a few miles removed from Africa and the Muslim world….
Only three campus ministers serve the needs of these 37,000 students. The local evangelical church does not have the resources to reach out to students on campus.
We were called to build a spiritual well at the edge of this post-Christian city, at the heart of its university. By operating a relational and authentic Christian community at the University of Málaga we hope to reach many for Christ.
We will also seek to build a bridge between the University and its surrounding Christian community by inviting local believers and churches to engage with students in various ways.
Located next to the campus and near several student residence halls, our ministry space is a hub for student events and activities like Bible studies, philosophical discussions, concerts, English Club, and game nights. In cooperation with local churches, we have been hosting a weekly Wednesday Dinner which was quickly adopted by campus ministries as an outreach event.
Over the past 3 years, the space has proved to be a catalyst for ministry collaboration, a strategic hub for ministries and churches who are striving to reach the 40,000 UMA students for Christ. We are looking forward to what God will have us do with this strategically located space in the near future!
